Learn how to say I am hot ("j'ai chaud") and it is hot ("il fait chaud / c'est chaud")

  • Weather: Use the impersonal expression "il fait froid" and "il fait chaud" to talk about weather.
    • Il fait trop chaud au soleil, je vais à l'ombre.
    • Il fait froid dehors, n'oublie pas de prendre ta veste.
  • Sensation: Use "avoir froid" and "avoir chaud" to talk about the sensation of heat or cold.
    • J'ai chaud, tu peux ouvrir la fenêtre s'il te plaît ?
    • J'allume le chauffage si vous avez froid.
  • Attractiveness: Excitation To say someone is hot in the sense someone is attractive, use another expression.
    • Cette femme est séduisante.
    • Mon époux est toujours très attirant.
    • Il est canon cet acteur ! (slang)
  • Excitation: "Être chaud" means to be excited. Use it only in informal contexts.
    • Je suis chaud pour ce soir, on va bien s'amuser !
    • Si tu es chaud, je vais nous inscrire au cours de danse.

Manon :
Il ne reste que 3 jours avant notre départ.
Le festival des Francofolies de la Rochelle nous attend !
Mon amie, tu es chaude pour ce week-end ?

Use the expression "être chaud" to say to be excited. However, this expression is used only in informal contexts:"Je suis chaud pour ce week-end !"
